Dental Inlays and Onlays Treatment Newmarket: Strong, Natural Tooth Restoration

When a tooth is damaged but doesn’t need a full crown, dental inlays and onlays offer a smart, conservative solution. If you’re looking for an alternative to a dental crown or a way to restore a damaged tooth without a crown, inlays and onlays are one of the most reliable tooth restoration options available today.

At Leslie North Dental, we use inlays and onlays in Newmarket to restore damaged teeth while preserving as much of your natural tooth as possible. These restorations are custom-made to fit your tooth precisely, giving you a result that looks natural, feels comfortable, and lasts for years.

Our Inlay & Onlay Treatment Process

1. Detailed exam and digital imaging

We begin with a thorough dental exam and digital imaging to assess the condition of your tooth and determine whether an inlay or onlay is the best solution.

2. Removing decay and preparing the tooth

Any decayed or damaged material is carefully removed. The tooth is then shaped to ensure your restoration fits securely and comfortably.

3. Custom fabrication of your restoration

Your inlay or onlay is custom-made to match your tooth’s shape, size, and color. This ensures a strong and natural-looking result with excellent function.

4. Bonding, polishing, and bite adjustment

Once ready, the restoration is bonded to your tooth, polished for a smooth finish, and adjusted to ensure a comfortable bite and long-term strength.

Switched here from my old family dentist a couple of years ago. Had my first cavity filling today—it was minor, and they didn’t freeze. Didn’t feel a thing and was over in 20 minutes. They give dentists a good name!

Excellent. If I could give more than five stars, I would. Dr Nazaran and his whole staff are professional, compassionate, more than capable and I have no “Dentist Fear Syndrome” when going there. As close to pain free dentistry as I’ve known. And they accept CDCP (Canadian Dental Care Plan), so Bonus. I highly recommend this dental office.

As a parent, finding the right dental care for my children is of utmost importance to me. I am thrilled to share our wonderful experience at Dentist, where my son received top-notch dental care that exceeded all expectations.

From the moment we walked in, the staff at Dentist made us feel welcomed and at ease. They have a fantastic way of creating a warm and friendly environment that instantly put my son at ease, which is no small feat for a child who was initially nervous about visiting the dentist.

The dentist and dental hygienist were incredibly patient, kind, and understanding. They took the time to explain each step of the examination and treatment process in a way that my son could understand, turning what could have been a daunting experience into an educational one. I truly appreciate the effort they put into making dental care a positive and educational journey for kids.

I highly recommend Dentist to all parents seeking the best dental care for their children. They have certainly earned our trust, and we look forward to our next visit with smiles on our faces!

Sincerely,
Sara

Inlays and Onlays: Tooth Restorations We Provide

Our goal is to provide durable tooth restoration that strengthens your smile using a minimally invasive approach. We recommend these treatments for:

  • Restoring moderately damaged or decayed teeth
  • Strengthening teeth that are too weak for fillings
  • Protecting teeth without needing a full dental crown

But what is the difference between inlays and onlays? Let’s discover.

Inlay vs. Onlay Tooth Restoration

Although they’re often mentioned together, inlays and onlays are used in slightly different situations. Dental inlays fit inside the grooves of the tooth, between the cusps (edges). They’re ideal when decay or damage is limited to the center of the tooth.

On the other hand, dental onlays extend over one or more cusps of the tooth. They’re used when the damage is more extensive but still not severe enough to require a crown.

Both options fix cracked or decayed teeth while maintaining strength and stability. Compared to traditional fillings, they provide a stronger and longer-lasting alternative, especially for back teeth that handle heavy chewing forces.

What Materials We Use for Inlays & Onlays

At Leslie North Dental, we use high-quality materials (porcelain or composite resin) to create custom dental restorations that blend beautifully with your natural teeth.

Porcelain tooth restorations are highly popular because they are strong, stain-resistant, and closely match your natural tooth color. Composite resin options can also be used in certain cases, offering durability and a natural look.

Both materials are carefully selected to ensure long-lasting strength and reliability, precise fit, and a finish that’s smooth, polished, strong, and natural-looking.

When Our Dentists Recommend an Inlay or Onlay

Our dentists may suggest an inlay if:

  • Decay is confined to the center of the tooth
  • The cusps (edges) of the tooth are healthy and stable
  • An old or failing filling needs to be replaced with a more durable tooth restoration
  • The goal is to preserve tooth structure while restoring strength

In short, inlays are ideal for patients who want a strong and natural-looking solution that blends seamlessly with the tooth and provides long-term reliability.

However, our dentist may recommend an onlay for the following situations:

  • One or more cusps are cracked, worn, or weakened
  • The tooth needs extra coverage for long-term protection
  • The tooth requires reinforcement, but does not need full crown coverage
  • You want to restore a damaged tooth without a crown

Inlay/Onlay vs Crown vs Filling: Choosing the Right Restoration

We don’t default to the biggest treatment. Our dentists carefully assess how much healthy tooth remains and recommend the most conservative option that still provides strength and long-term protection.

In many cases, an inlay or onlay offers the perfect middle ground, stronger than a filling, yet more tooth-saving than a crown. The comparison table below helps you understand the differences between these three procedures.

Many insurance plans provide partial coverage. Our team can help you review your benefits.

When damage is moderate, the goal is to preserve tooth structure while ensuring strength. In this situation, inlays and onlays are usually preferred over other alternatives.

It depends on the condition of the tooth. We always recommend the most conservative option that provides long-term protection.

To restore damaged teeth, maintain strength, and protect your natural tooth without over-treatment.
